10 Questions
for Willie Crawford
by Michael

If you've
been hanging around the internet for any length of
time - especially in the marketing circles - then you probably
already heard of Willie Crawford. If you haven't, then he's
someone you want to get to know. You can read a little about him here:
http://www.williecrawford.com/meet_willie.html
Willie
has just recently sponsored a successful workshop,
complete with a fishing trip. So far the buzz had been nothing
short of incredible. I wish I was able to attend, but I promise
you I'll make the next one he has.
What that
brought to mind for me though, is the current trend of
"well-known" marketers sponsoring these workshops. I had to
ask
myself - "Self" I asked, "What's the REAL purpose of
these
highly advertised, very expensive workshops? Isn't it true that
they're really more for big named 'Guru's' and such to get
together and put together more big dollar deals? The little guy
can hardly afford one of these, so what good does it do to even
advertise them?"
Well, I
couldn't answer that, seeing as I didn't go. So I
thought I'd go to the source and ask him.
I asked
Willie ten questions. And he so graciously answered
them. And now I have a different perspective on workshops. And
as I said above - I will be at his next one.
Read on:
Hi Willie.
How was the workshop? A success, I hope.
Hi Michael.
I considered it a big success. I got a
great set of videos/audio cassette recordings and made
a lot of attendees very happy. A lot of old friends
also spent a lot of time just having fun.
MA - I
have added a list of ten questions below, relating to
workshops:
1. Tell
us about the first workshop you attended - who sponsored
it, what was the subject, how much did you get out of it?
WC - Dr.
Bob Silber sponsored the first workshop I attended. It
was on how to properly create and market information products.
I felt I got tremendous value, and I used much of what I learned.
2. When
you completed your first workshop, did you feel you got
your money's worth?
WC - Yes.
The contacts that I made and later followed up with
were worth many times the price.
3. Since
then, how many workshops have you attended?
WC - Five
4. How
would you rate them in terms of usefulness as compared to
other forms of media (such as ebooks, courses, mentoring etc.)?
WC - Workshops
give me a chance to learn while actually
experiencing the procedure. They also give me a chance to meet
and work with many people face to face. I don't do deals in the
tens or hundreds of thousands of dollars with anyone I haven't
actually met.
5. These
days, it seems any/every well-known marketer is putting
their name on a workshop. Is this a trend that's likely to
continue for some time?
WC - I
think it will. I do see more regional and more smaller
workshops though. People are more likely to go to an event
nearby due to the convenience factor.
6. Of the
workshops I see advertised, they are (obviously) held
someplace where the majority of the perspective attendees will
have to travel to get to, get a hotel room for a few days, air
fare, other expenses - this adds up to quite an expense for the
average person. That means there are many people who may have
the desire and drive to attend one, but not the means. Given
all of that, do you feel these workshops have any real value to
the thousands of people who receive the ads for them? If so,
how do they take advantage of them?
WC - Those
who can't attend should buy the recordings if
available. They get the same information but miss the
interaction and after-hours networking. The group interaction
is often what motivates many people, but if you can't attend
that doesn't mean a self-starter can't benefit from the
information.
Everybody
has to make decisions on how to allocate limited
resources. Deciding to spend limited funds to attend a workshop
they thought they couldn't afford is what really proved to be
the turning point for many of the successes I know.
7. In the
eyes of many "Newbies" in the internet marketing
business, all of these high-profile workshops may seem like more
of an opportunity for the person hosting it to network
themselves than it would help the average person. Would you
agree or disagree? Why?
WC - I
would disagree. The person hosting the event generally
knows hundreds of other internet marketers. They already network
with many others regularly. For example, I am on the phone
almost every day with some of the top names.... we consult with
and mentor each other :-) The workshops give Newbies a chance to
meet and network with many people they are not likely to meet
otherwise.
8. I know
that teleconferencing has risen in popularity (you've
even hosted a few yourself). Would you consider this a viable -
and more affordable - solution for those with the desire but no
means?
WC - Since
the cost of hosting a tele-conference is less than
hosting a live event they are much less expensive. Also since
there is not travel or hotel costs, they are cheaper to attend.
They are an excellent way to learn some topics. Their biggest
limitation is in the length of time people would want to stay on
the phone. Tele seminars are great for very targeted subjects
:-)
9. It is
well-known to many people that you are a self-made man
in this business. What would you say was the one thing that
gave you the biggest "boost" to your on line career? Your
best
education?
WC - Meeting
and making friends with people who are already
earning a living doing what I wanted to do. I discovered that
it's easier if someone shares with you what they are doing.
10. Do
you have any sage advice for the readers about achieving
success?
WC - The
most important thing is to not give up. Select very
worthy goal and decide you are going to make them happen.
Realize that it is going to take lots of work (or luck) and that
you will have to spend some money too. Despite what people
sometimes lead you to believe, you do need to make an investment
in an internet-based business.
Thanks
a ton for answering my questions! After reading through
them I found I had left out one important question I think
people will want to know:
Bonus Question:
Do you have future plans of hosting another
workshop? If so, when?
WC - I
do have another event planned. It is tentatively March
26-28th, 2004. March 26th is my birthday and seemed like the
perfect weekend to supercharge a few more lives. I need to
check on the typical temperatures, what part of the fishing
season that is, etc... since I will probably take people out
deep sea fishing as part of the package too.
Willie
has made me see the value of attending a workshop such as
his. The education is paramount, but the contacts you make and
the interaction of some spectacular minds is where the real
"payoff" is.
I can tell
you this much . . . I made it my goal to attend
Willie's next event. I think it will be money well-spent. Or
should I say well INVESTED.
A special
thanks to Willie for taking the time to answer my
questions.

The Top
three reasons people Fail online!
Success Tips by Dennis Cheesman
Most people
come online with the thoughts of getting rich quick..
.And then fall flat on their faces! They get the get rich quick
virus, it's quite contagious and extremely deadly to your self
esteem and your business!
You need
to get rid of that virus by implementing, knowledge,
hard work and the right mindset, learn from other people's
mistakes and understand why they have failed online, so that you
can avoid making the same mistakes, when you do make a mistake,
shake it off and get on with your life, take that mistake and
turn it into knowledge.
Here are
the top three reasons why most people fail online:
1) Don't
have the money to start, or don't want to spend it!.
You have
to think that starting a online business is the same as
starting an offline business, when you start an offline business,
there are certain things that you have to be willing to pay for
if you want your business to succeed.
And the
same thing goes for your online business, and if you\'re
not willing to spend the money on these things then your
business will go nowhere!
A list
of what you need is:
A great
web-host (this is the lifeline of your business)
A good
follow up system (autoresponders)
Knowledge
(if you have to buy into a membership or course to
learn what it takes to build your business then do it)
You have
to spend some money on advertising..(eZine advertising,
Pay-Per-Click or whatever) (Just make sure you do your research
on what your fixing to join or purchase!)
2) They
give up before it get's going!
This happens
all the time, people come on line with the hopes of
getting rich, they join one scheme after another thinking this
one is going to make me rich, as soon as they receive another
email scheme, they jump on it...
This keeps
going for awhile, until they get so frustrated that
they just give up and say it's impossible to make money online!
One of the reasons is that most people lack persistence and the
ability to hang in there when the going gets tough. If you lack
persistence, you will have a tough time making it online! ("If
you do make it")
Here is
a list of ways to help give your business a boost!
Do joint
ventures with other marketers to grow your business.
Join forums,
offer your help to people, get joint venture
partners(just don't spam the boards)
Follow
the steps of someone who is already successful online!
Don't be
afraid to make a mistake online, we've all made
mistakes, and will continue to, just make sure you learn from
them...
Start an
affiliate program!
Make sure
you collect the names of your visitors and follow up
with them...
3) Lack
of knowledge
Knowledge
is power, if you want to make it online you have to
learn all you can! And put what you know into action, use your
knowledge, don't just let it set up there and collect brain dust,
anyone can learn if they really want to, you just have to have
the will, and the strive!
You will
always be learning, there is always someone out there
that can teach you something or ignite and ol' flame that you
let burn down.. all I can say is..learn, learn, learn!
If you
stay persistent, learn all you can, and stay focused, you
can do anything and become anything..Want to be a guru? Then do
what the gurus did...Work for it, give it all you got and learn
all you can and NEVER EVER give up!!
